Plants vs. Zombies

I offhandedly  mentioned Plants vs. Zombies several posts ago, and I thought it was about time I gave a quick review. So here it is.

Behold the awesome!
If you've haven't played Plants vs. Zombies before, then you should know that it's a tower defense game created by PopCap (of Bejeweled and Insaniquarium fame).

Basically, you lay down plants to stop zombies from eating your brains. You have the sunflower, which provides sun which serves as a resource for buying more plants. Then you have the basic peashooter, which shoots peas at oncoming zombies. The wall-nut soaks up a lot of damage and prevents zombies from moving forward.

It might sound simple and straightforward, but it can get pretty complicated. Some of the stronger zombies can take a lot of hits before going down, so you have to plan out your defenses with these threats in mind.

The various stages will take you to the front yard and backyard (complete with pool) during the day and night, and then to the roof. There's a bunch of mini games, puzzles, and a survival mode. One of my favorite things about the game is the zen garden, where you can raise plants you've collected from the different stages.
The soothing zen garden.

I definitely recommend giving PvZ a try. It's easy enough for casual gamers, but offers nuanced gameplay that will appeal to the hardcore crowd (survival: endless mode especially).

  1. I seriously want to play this game now. Anything with zombies is a win. Have you played Zombie Hooker Whatever It's Called On Adult Swim? If not, you should. It's awesome.

  2. I like zombie games too. Stuff like Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising are great because I can just mow down hordes of zombies.

I haven't played Zombie Hooker, but I'll check it out.
